The Middle East Policy Council is pleased to announce that two Council board members have been selected to assume historic roles in the Biden administration.
On April 12 Secretary of State Antony Blinken named Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley as the Department’s first chief diversity officer, tasked with fostering a more inclusive workplace and a more diverse workforce and diplomatic corps. In accepting the appointment, Ambassador Abercrombie-Winstanley reflected that:

“We are at a particular time in America, and the world is watching us. We all share in the responsibility to ensure that each of us feels that we are not only having the opportunity to excel, but we are expected to reach our full potential.”
On April 15, President Biden announced the nomination of former deputy assistant
Ms. Christine Abizaid
secretary of defense, Ms. Christine Abizaid, to be director of the National Counterterrorism Center. If confirmed, Ms. Abizaid will be the first woman to hold the position on a permanent basis. Both Ambassador Abercrombie-Winstanley and Ms. Abizaid have been active members of the Council’s Board of Directors, helping guide the organization to prominence in Middle East policy circles.
MEPC President and Chairman of the Board Amb. Richard J. Schmierer highlighted these history-making selections:
