The Middle East Policy Council is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan educational organization. Founded in 1981, the mission of the Council is to foster public discussion of the political, economic, cultural, and security issues that affect the policies of the United States in the Middle East. The hallmark of our work is respect for thoughtful, diverse views.
This mission is implemented through three interrelated programs:
The quarterly journal Middle East Policy is the flagship of the Council's efforts to broaden the debate on critical issues and U.S. interests in the region.
The Capitol Hill Conference Series consists of quarterly public forums in which a panel of experts discusses critical policy issues. Video and text of the conferences are posted immediately on the Council website, and an edited version is published in Middle East Policy.
The Public Outreach and Education Program helps a broad range of interested citizens nationwide to better understand the Middle East, primarily through free workshops for elementary, secondary and post-secondary educators. The Council also tailors the program for media outlets, civic organizations, and corporations.
